The Atlantic deep sea red crab fishery runs from Cape Hatteras Light, North Carolina to the US-Canada border. Commercial fishing takes place on the continental slope, at depths between 200 and 1800 meters. In the year 2000, the industry requested that the New England Fishery Management Council develop a limited access management plan. By the fall of 2009, the red crab fishery was certified as sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council. As the health of our oceans becomes increasingly at risk, we pledge to continue our mission to change the future of commercial fishing.

"The fishermen know that the sea is dangerous and the storm terrible, but they have never found these dangers sufficient reason for remaining ashore."
